LINGANORE PULLS OFF RARE SWEEP OF WK; MONOCACY, OAKDALE SPLIT CLOSE PAIR - 1/11

Varsity Linganore 47 Windsor Knolls 36 Linganore defeated Windsor Knolls in another matchup of old rivals. The Lancers knocked down 3 threes in the first quarter from three different players Daniel Cioffi, Elliot White and Mathew Katuna to take an early lead. Cioffi hit another in the second period but was matched by Jeremy Puvirajan of the Wolverines who had 5 points in the quarter.The Lancers led 28 to 13 at the half. The Lancers crashed the boards in the third with Colton Kirk getting 6 ponts and Mathew Katuna getting 4. The Wolverines kept fighting in the fourth with Lex Melito-Mustafa scoring 4 and Jeremy Puvirajan with 9. Leading scorers for Linganore were Mathew Katuna with 15 points and Colton Kirk with 8. Windsor Knolls was led by Jeremy Puvirajan with 19, Lex Melito-Mustafa 7 points and Jeremy Clevenger with 5.

 

Linganore jayvee 33 WK 23 The Lancers front line controlled the boards as they defeated the Wolverines 33-23 The Lancers excellent ball movement resulted in strong finishes at the rim. The first quarter the teams traded baskets with the Lancers taking a nine to seven lead. Linganore’s defense was smothering in the second quarter, limiting the Wolverines to two points, taking a 17-9 halftime lead. The Wolverines got a couple of quick turnovers to start the second half but could not convert them into baskets. Camden Herdman for Linganore hit two big 3 pointers in the third quarter to lead the Lancer charge. The Wolverines Gassa Djoko hit a 3 pointer and the Lancers held a lead of 25-15 going into the final quarter.. The Wolverines attempted a late charge but the Lancers hit their foul shots late in the game to come away with a hard fought victory. Silas Lane and Gassa Djoko lead WK with seven apiece and Elliott Malt finished with five. The Lancers were lead by Camden Herdman with 11 and Matthew Marcellino with eight. Jared Boone and Henry Keefer contributed four apiece

 

Varsity: Monocacy 39 Oakdale 35 In a competitive back and forth matchup, Monocacy jumped out to an early 10–2 lead and controlled the tempo of the first half, taking a four point advantage into the break. Oakdale responded in the third quarter with a more focused defensive effort, closing the gap and briefly pulling ahead. The Mustangs answered with timely three point shooting and steady free throw execution down the stretch to hold off the Bears and secure the victory. For Oakdale, Luke Scholtes led all scorers with 21 points, while Trey Snyder added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 steals. Cooper Verner contributed 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Monocacy was led by Elijah Griffin with 14 points, Ivie Owolafe with 8 points, and Luke Sprankle with 10 points, including 6 clutch free throws in the fourth quarter.

 

JV: Oakdale 32, Monocacy 28 It was a thrilling back-and-forth battle between Monocacy and Oakdale, with multiple lead changes keeping the crowd on its feet from start to finish. In the end, Oakdale’s relentless energy and total team effort proved to be the difference as they pulled away for a hard-earned victory. Oakdale was led by Gavin Kolick and Caleb Clark, who each scored 8 points, setting the tone on both ends of the floor. Monocacy fought until the final buzzer, paced by Zuriel Ashy with a game-high 14 points, along with Jackson Northern, who added 5.

 

Middletown varsity 42 Catoctin 33 Middletown opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter and never looked back on their way to a 42-33 win. After taking a 20-11 halftime lead, Catoctoin battled back to get within 4 towards the end of the 3rd quarter. The Knights turned up the defensive intensity to keep the Cougers from finishing their comeback to finish the game. Middletown was led by Nik Janse Van Rensburg with 9 points and 9 boards. Kathan Franklin and Kevin Polifko added 7 points each while Landen Clabaugh added 5 points and 5 steals. Catoctin was led by Nathanael Fountain with 14 points while Jeremy Veronie added 6 points.

 

Middletown jayvee 48 Catoctin 34 The Knights jumped out to an early lead in the first half, carrying a 26–18 advantage into halftime. Their full-court press proved to be the difference, locking down Catoctin’s offense and forcing tough possessions throughout the game. The Knights maintained control in the second half, continuing their defensive pressure and steady scoring to secure a 48–34 victory. Leading the way for the Knights was Doody with 12 points and 9 points from the foul line, followed by Poffenbarger with 10 points. Odell added 6 points, and Oman chipped in 4. Catoctin was led by a strong performance from Wiles, who scored 20 points, while Baker contributed 12 in the loss.

 

Mt Airy varsity 51 West Frederick 44 The Bulldogs and Cadets battled each other for the second time in three weeks in an Antietam Division matchup. Mt. Airy got off to a fast start with Nathan Hartman scoring 5 of his team high 10 points in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs scored 16 points in the first to lead 16-6 at the end of one. Tyler Morgan scored 7 of his game high 14 in the second quarter for the Cadets but the Bulldog offense remained consistent and went into the half with a 26-15 lead. West Frederick found another level to their offense in the third quarter scoring 18 in the frame. Grant Dunlevy scored 8 points in the quarter to draw the Cadets to within four at the end of the third, 37-33. But Mt. Airy continued to dominate on the boards with a 37-19 advantage which was crucial in the fourth. Mt. Airy was able to withstand West Frederick's pressure as Zach Peart and Ayden Murphy both scored 5 points in the quarter to pace the Bulldogs victory. The Bulldogs had a balanced offensive attack with 10

 

Mt Airy jayvee 31 West Frederick 14 Early in the first quarter West Frederick jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but the Bulldogs scored the next 22 points to build a 24-6 lead well into the second half. West Frederick tried to rally behind a team high 6 points from Bryce Necciai but it would not be enough as the Bulldogs stayed the course and came away with a win. Mt. Airy was led by Jameson Mallare's 8 points and Kam McCarthy's 7 points.

 

Varsity TJ 68 Westminster 34 TJ got the victory on the road, led by Paris Kenney with 15 points. Gabe Ayala had 12, while Santana Pacheco chipped in 11. Westminster was led by Kaden Cotton with 10 and KJ Cotton with 9 points.

 

JV Westminster 31 TJ 20 Westminster played a balanced game where every player contributed with scoring, rebounding, and defense. Nathan Siepel, Po Jones, Caleb Hastings, and Karsten Fombe tied a team high in scoring with 5 points a piece, while stingy defense by the entire team helped pave the way to a victory. TJ was led by William Opoku and Zy'Aire Davis with 7 points each.

 

Boonsboro V 42 Crestwood 28. Camden Engle led the Warriors scoring 9 followed by Gabe Lazo who added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Crestwood’s Damien Wallace Jr led all scorers with 13 and Kai Dorsey added 6 for Crestwood.

 

Boonsboro JV defeated Winters Mill 28-20. Boonsboro spread the ball around as seven of the eight players were in the scoring column. Landyn Palmer led Boonsboro with 9 points and Braeden Worrell contributed 8 points for the Warriors. Winters Mill was led by Brantley Parsons and Levi Davey with 8 points and 7 points, respectively.

 

Varsity Smithsburg 58 FSK 16 Smithsburg came out an scored 27 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Smithsburg was led by Jake Rogers with 15 points, Landon Pugh had 14 points.

Luke Glines Led Smithsburg with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. FSK was led by Chris Burton with 7 points.

 

JV Smithsburg 42 FSK 30 Jay Krumputich led Smithsburg with 12 points. FSK was led by Camden Rutter with 12 points.

 

6TH - FSK 38 Smithsburg 34 FSK was led by Brady Crawmer with 11 points and Connor Bullock added 10 points. Smithsburg was led by Joey Mason with 11 points and 8 rebounds. DJ Harris has 7 assists with 4 steals for Smithsburg.

 

6TH - Oakdale earned a convincing 59–23 victory over Catoctin, controlling the game from start to finish. Dom Jackson led all scorers with 20 points, including a big third quarter, while Ryan Hessman had a strong all-around performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Oakdale jumped out to an early lead, went into halftime ahead 32–14, and extended the margin by outscoring Catoctin 24–3 in the third quarter. The team shared the ball well, rebounded aggressively, and never trailed on the way to the win. Leading scorers for Catoctin were Jayden Allen with 11 points and Xavier Meekins with 3.

 

6TH - Boonsboro 34 (Thompson 14 pts Fawley 9 pts) Ballenger Creek 29 (Kopp 11 pts Burdette 6 pts) 

 

EIGHT GAMES DECIDED BY TEN POINTS OR LESS - 1/10

Westminster varsity 40 FSK 38. Westminster was led by the Colton twins with each scoring 12 points. Grayson Crawmer led the Eagles with 13 points and had a chance to win the game on a last second 3 pointer that rimmed out. Caleb Sellman added 8 points and Chris Burton played a smart and aggressive game handling the Westminster pressure.

 

Westminster jayvee 46 FSK 43. Po Jones led all scorers with 17 points for the Owls, while Darien Cartwright finished with 13 points. Richard Carnegie added 8 points to round out Westminster’s scoring attack in the three-point win. FSK was paced by Cam Rutter, who matched Jones with a team-high 17 points. Caiden Frock directed the offense, recording 6 assists while contributing 5 points. Landon Myers anchored the defense in the paint, finishing with 9 rebounds and 5 steals. The game remained within striking distance for the Eagles throughout the final minutes before Westminster was able to hold on for the victory.

 

Varsity Brunswick 58 Linganore 52 (OT) It was a relentless, backandforth battle filled with big plays and clutch moments, with Linganore pushing them to the brink. Brunswick controlled much of the first half, building a 23–17 lead behind steady scoring and strong interior play. Every time Brunswick looked ready to pull away, Linganore answered—refusing to let the deficit grow and keeping constant pressure on. That resilience carried into the second half, where the Lancers mounted a determined rally and steadily chipped away at the lead possession by possession. Brunswick, however, continued to find timely answers. Their offense delivered in key moments, and despite Linganore’s relentless push, Brunswick managed to stay just a step ahead. Each time Brunswick created separation, Linganore clawed right back, eventually forcing overtime. The extra three minutes belonged to Brunswick. With renewed energy and sharper execution, they finally created the breathing room that had eluded them all game. Key defensive stops and welltimed baskets allowed Brunswick to pull ahead for good. Brunswick was led by Bryce Smith with a game-high 31 points. Linganore was led by Cooper Davis with 25 points and Colton Kirk with 13 points.

 

JV Linganore 64 Brunswick 35 The Lancers got a quick lead but the Railroaders tightened up defensively and found some key buckets to stay within striking distance, closing the quarter with Linganore ahead 17–10. The second period highlighted Linganore’s defensive sharpness and ability to read Brunswick’s offensive sets well, breaking up plays and forcing difficult shots. Despite Brunswick’s continued hustle, Linganore’s ability to disrupt possessions allowed them to maintain control heading into halftime with a 28-19 lead. Ramping up the intensity after the break, Linganore pushed the tempo and added 13 points to their total while holding Brunswick to 10. Brunswick battled to keep the gap manageable, but Linganore’s consistency on both ends helped them extend their lead, heading into the final quarter 41–29. In the end, Linganore was able to deliver their strongest offensive frame in the final quarter, applying heavy pressure and capitalizing on nearly every opportunity. They poured in 23 points while limiting Brunswick to just 6, sealing the game with a dominant closing stretch. Linganore was led by Jered Boone with a game high 18 points, followed by Henry Keefer with 12 points and Vance Glanville with 10 points. Brunswick was led by Brody McLane with 9 points and Andrew Sindler with 7 points.

 

Varsity: Monocacy defeated West Frederick 66-36 lead by Ivie Owalfe’s 16 points with Luke Sprankle pitching in 15. Kai Rodgers and Tyler Morgan both had 10 for West Frederick.

 

JV: Monocacy won the junior varsity game 50-28 lead by Finn Sanford with 17 points and supported by Zuriel Ashu with 13 points. West Frederick was lead in scoring by Diggy Onley with 8 points.

 

Varsity: Walkersville defeated Crestwood, 54-46. Crestwood got out to an early lead, thanks to Sean Brown Jr. hitting his first two shots and (6) first quarter points from Isaiah Gions. The Lions’ Hudson Beaver hit an early 3 and a layup, and Kieran Hamner added (4) points of his own. Crestwood took a 12-11 lead into the second quarter. Jeremiah Clayburn came off the bench to add (5) 2nd quarter points for the Cavs, while Walkersville got points from four different scorers in the period. The teams headed into halftime with the score knotted at 22 apiece. Hudson Beaver stayed hot in the second half for the Lions, scoring (7) in the 3rd to help give Walkersville their first lead in the game. This little bit of separation proved to be enough for the Lions, as they kept the Cavs at bay in the 4th quarter and eventually stretched their lead to as many as 11 points. Crestwood’s Isaiah Gions finished with a game-high of (20) points. The Lions were led in scoring by Hudson Beaver, who had (18) points, Joseph Wonah with (14) points, and Kieran Hamner with (12) points.

 

JV: Walkersville pulled out a road victory, 42-31 over Crestwood in what was a back-and-forth style game. The Lions threw the first punch, with Colin Ieng chipping in two early 3’s and Damerius Waller and Anthony Wallace contributing (4) 1st quarter points apiece. With the Lions up 11-4 at the end of the 1st quarter, the Cavs punched back, getting (5) 2nd quarter points and (2) steals from guard Hezekiah Myles to pull Crestwood within 4 points going into the half. The Lions went into the break up 19-15. In the second half, Walkersville played impressive inside-out basketball on the offensive end, allowing the Lions to spread the ball around and get buckets from (7) different players. The Lions were able to pull away early in the 3rd quarter and didn’t look back. They were led by Damerius Waller and Colin Ieng, who each scored (8) points. Crestwood’s leading scorer was Jeremiah Adayemi, who finished with (6) points.

 

JV: Smithsburg defeated Winters Mill 37-34. Smithsburg guard Lincoln Brown hit a midrange jumper in the last minute to pull Smithsburg ahead and they held on down the stretch. Brown led Smithsburg with 11 points and Henry Rawlett and Blake Sines chipped in 8 apiece. Winters Mill was led by Connor Wynne with 11 points.

 

Middletown varsity 34 Mt. Airy 31 In a game that saw Mt. Airy take a 13-4 lead after the 1st quarter, Middletown chipped away at the deficit throughout the rest of the contest. The Bulldogs did a great job holding on and countering the Knights to keep their lead until a 3 pointer from Mason D'Alessio with a little over 1 minute left put Middletown ahead for the first time since early in the 1st quarter. After a couple free throws by the Knights, the Bulldogs moved the ball down the court but a last second 3 didn't fall. Middletown was led by Nik Janse Van Rensburg with a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards while Kathan Franklin chipped in 9 points. Mt. Airy was led by Christian Burke's 10 points while Ayden Murphy added 9 points.

 

JV- Mt. Airy 34 Middletown 21 Meeting for the second time in a week, Mt. Airycame out on top, defeating Middletown 34–21. The Bulldogs established control early and maintained their lead despite a strong push from the Knights in the second half. Middletown showed resilience after halftime, putting together a scoring run that briefly narrowed the gap, but the comeback fell short. The Knights were led offensively by Doody, who scored 6 points and added 1 point from the free-throw line. L. Moreland and Hogan each contributed 3 points, while Oman, Poffenbarger, Trevett, and Sherman chipped in 2 points apiece. For Mt. Airy, Almonte led all scorers with 12 points, followed closely by McCarthy with 11.

 

Windsor Knolls varsity held off a late rally to beat Catoctin 51–41. Windsor Knolls built a steady lead and withstood a late push from Catoctin. The game opened as a defensive battle, with Windsor Knolls edging ahead 8–7 after the first quarter. Momentum shifted in the second quarter as Windsor Knolls stretched the lead to 23–14 at halftime. Catoctin fought back after the break, but Windsor Knolls maintained control, leading 37–28 at the end of the third quarter. Catoctin made things interesting in the final minutes, cutting the deficit to four points with about 1:30 remaining. Forced to foul to regain possession, Catoctin watched Windsor Knolls capitalize at the free-throw line. A few missed shots down the stretch for Catoctin, combined with strong free-throw shooting, sealed the win for Windsor Knolls. Jeremy Puvirajan led all scorers with 25 points for Windsor Knolls, knocking down five three-pointers. Lex Melito-Mustafa added 13 points in support. Catoctin was led by Eli Yocum with 14 points, while Weston Tyler contributed nine points, including three shots from beyond the arc.

 

JV Windsor Knolls 54, Catoctin 13 Windsor Knolls jumped out to an early advantage and never let up, using a stifling defensive effort to force turnovers and build an 18–4 lead after the first quarter. The Wolverines maintained control the rest of the way on their way to a convincing win. Silas Lane paced Windsor Knolls with 12 points, knocking down 10 free throws, while Elliot Malt added 10 points. Luke Wiles led Catoctin with seven points.

 

Urbana varsity 52 Boonsboro 36. Boonsboro hung tough in the first half of the game and led 23-22 at halftime. Urbana came back in second half and eventually pulled away with help of Israel Kaijuka’s four 3’s. Urbana’s Gavin Zmuda led all scorers with 14. Kaijukq added 12 for Urbana. Chase Main scored 13 and Eric Tall added 8 for the Warriors.

 

Urbana’s JV defeated Boonsboro 36-33 in a tightly contested battle that came down to the end. Naveen Perera paced Urbana’s scoring with 9 points and Julian Jimenez contributed 8 points for the Hawks. Jackson Mullins and Brayden Keyton both contributed 9 points for the Warriors.

 

6TH - Urbana 60 Boonsboro 13 Urbana Smith and Marshall 12pts each Fawley and cook 4

 

6TH - Oakdale 62 FSK 25. The leading scorers for Oakdale were Ryan Hessman with 15 points. Gavin Rollins added 11 and B. Vandlandingham added 8. FSK struggled against Oakdale's defense with Romeo Taylor leading FSK in scoring with 7 points. Brady Crawmer and Lincoln Monteau both added 4 points.

 

6TH - Brunswick wins over Ballenger Bulldogs 53-31. The Railroaders jumped out to a 14-5 lead over the Bulldogs at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs Andrew Kremnitzer came alive in the second, scoring 10 points and helping Ballenger cut the deficit to as close as two points. Brunswick responded, however, and took a 28-22 lead into halftime. The third quarter belonged to Brunswick #32, who scored 10 of the team’s 15 points in the period to extend the Railroaders’ lead to 43-29. Brunswick defense then took over in the fourth, holding the Bulldogs to just two points to seal a convincing Victory. Brunswick was led by game-high scorer #32 James, who dominated the boards and finished with 24 points, teammates Maxx added 8 points, while Parker and Caison chipped in 7 points apiece. Ballenger was led by Andrew Kremnitzer, who scored 17 of the Bulldogs 31 points. 

 

WALKERSVILLE, BALLENGER CREEK SPLIT CLOSE DECISIONS - 1/08

Varsity – Walkersville 62 Ballenger 56 Walkersville outlasted Ballenger in this at times tightly contested. After a strong first half start by the Bulldogs Walkersville came fighting back in the third to knot the game up 43 all. The fourth was all Walkersville scoring 21 in the quarter while holding Ballenger to 13. Walkersville was led by Hudson Beaver who led all scorers with 30, followed by Kirman Hammer with 15. Ballenger was led by Eli Gomez with 18 followed by Sean Furlong with 13.

 

Ballenger Creek JV scored its second straight win with a 33 to 29 victory over Walkersville. Ballenger Creek led by 10 points at half-time, but Walkersville went on a 13 – 2 run in the third quarter, ending the third quarter tied at 23. Ballenger Creek stuck to its offensive plan and outscored Walkersville 10 to 6 in the 4th quarter, securing the win. High scorers for Ballenger Creek were AJ Asameyong with 12 points, Benai Underwood with 9 points, and Jonathan Bankole with 6 points. High scorers for Walkersville were Brian Hite with 7 points, Anthony Wallace with 6 points and Trey Campbell with 5 points.

 

BALLENGER CREEK TAKES PAIR OF ONE-POINTERS AGAINST OAKDALE - 1/05

Varsity - Ballenger 48 Oakdale 47 After a quick start by the Bulldogs, Oakdale would not go quietly the second quarter was nipped and tucked with first half ending 26 to 21 in favor of the Bulldogs. Oakdale caught fire at the start of the second half, scoring 16 points in the third, while holding Ballenger to 11 closing the quarter all knotted at 37. In the fourth quarter both teams continued to battle, but in the end with some timely defense and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch Ballenger prevailed. Ballenger was led by Eli Gomez who led all scorers with 21 points followed by Ryan Longus and Kobe Shareef each with 8 points, Oakdale was led by Luke Scholtes with 11, followed by Vinny Favarulo and Cooper Verner with 9 points each.

 

Ballenger Creek jayvee 21, Oakdale 20. Both teams appeared to struggle equally with getting to the basket, missed layups and missed jump shots. Ballenger only scored 8 points in the first quarter and 6 points in the second quarter. Oakdale scored 2 points in the first quarter and 4 points in the second quarter. Both teams continued to struggle after half-time. Oakdale outscored Ballenger in the 3rd quarter with a 10 to 5 run. In the 4th quarter, Ballenger edged Oakdale by one point to secure the win, 21 to 20. High scorers for Ballenger were A.J. Asameyong with 14 points and Jonathan Bankole with 4 points. High scorers for Oakdale were Hudson Miller with 8 points and Maalo Bangnikon with 4 points.

 

URBANA WINS THREE; MIDDLETOWN, MT. AIRY AND WALKERSVILLE TWO APIECE - 1/04

Varsity: Monocacy led wire-to-wire as they took down Crestwood 47-19. The Mustangs were able to consistently pound the ball inside and get shots at the rim. Taking a 21-6 lead into the half, Monocacy never looked back in the 2nd half. The Mustangs had a balanced offensive attack, getting 11 points from Gabe Nah III, 12 points from Elijah Griffin, and a game high of 14 points from Ivie Olawafe. Crestwood’s Isaiah Gions led his team with 6 points and 3 steals.

 

JV: Crestwood defeated Monocacy 38-31 in a defensive battle between rival programs. Monocacy dominated on the boards and capitalized on many second chance opportunities, while the Cavs found success in transition. After a slow offensive start to the game, the Cavaliers leaned heavily on their full-court press to get the Mustangs out of rhythm in the 2nd half. There were several lead changes throughout, but Crestwood eventually pulled out the victory thanks in large part to Jayvion Taylor, who finished with a game high of 11 points, and Jeremiah Adeyemi with 9 points. Lance Catud added 4 points and 7 rebounds. Zuriel Ashu led the Mustangs with 8 points, and Devante Cunningham hit two 3’s and finished with 7 points.

 

Varsity: Mt Airy defeated Westminster 55-32. Westminster was shorthanded but fought admirably, led by Caleb Fetterhoff's 8 points. Mt Airy was led by Ayden Murphy with 17 points and Nathan Hartman chipped in 12.

 

Mt Airy jayvee defeated Westminster 28-23 in what can be described as an offensive struggle. There was some good defense, but a lid on the basket for both sides was the main story. In the end big baskets by Kam McCarthy and Jameson Mallare sealed the victory for the Bulldogs. Westminster was led by Karsten Fombe with 8 points, while Jameson Shaffer led the Bulldogs with 7.

 

Varsity - Walkersville 54 Catoctin 40. Walkersville started off flat with a slow offensive start while Catoctin hit some early shots to gain a lead. A three from Lion Hudson Beaver woke up Walkersville and they opened up the scoring. Walkersville leads 15-8 after one. In the second, the Lion trio of Beaver, Joseph Wonah, and Jayden Boube ignited the Lions attack with 20 of the 22 quarter points. Lions lead 37-16 at half. In the third the Cougars Weston Tyler and Chris Smallwood hit threes while on Lions again started slow. Kevin Coleman came in for the Lions and sparked a run with defensive pressure and a big three while big man Kieran Hamner was dominate inside with blocks and six big points to help the Lions lead 52-25 after three. In the fourth, the Cougars Weston Tyler and Jeremy Veronie got hot with all 15 of the Cougars quarter points. Catoctin’s Weston Tyler led all scorers with 19 along with 7 from Jeremy Veronie. JV - Walkersville - 58 Catoctin - 18. Walkersville had another strong performance, jumping out to an early lead due to their strong defense and never looked back. With another strong team effort, Walkersville had thirteen players score. Scoring was led by Brian Hite (10), Trey Campbell (11) and Damerius Waller with (8). Other scorers included Z. Adeoye, D. Barrett, B. Gagnon, C. Ieng , K. Lavendar , J. Wonah, A. Wallace , J White, K Johnson and Humphries. Catoctin was led in scoring by L Wiles with 8 pts.

 

Middletown varsity 51 FSK 22 The Knights came out and set the tone early against the Eagles by taking a 13-1 1st quarter lead into a 25-9 halftime lead. Strong defense along with controlling the boards continued in the 2nd half as Middletown led wire to wire. Kathan Franklin led all scorers with 19 points with 4 3's to go along with 4 boards. Landen Clabaugh added 7 points, 7 assists and 6 steals while Brooks Godlove chipped in 6 points along with Mason D'Alessio and Eric Lancaster with 5 points each with Lancaster adding 8 boards. FSK was led by Grayson Crawmer with 7 points while Ethan Carder added 4 points.

 

Middletown jayvee 38 FSK 24 The Knights delivered a strong team performance in a hard-fought matchup. Doody led the Knights’ scoring effort with 8 points, adding 4 more from the foul line to finish with a game-high 12 points. Schneider and Poffenbarger each contributed 6 points, while Oman added 4 points. Larson and Hogan each added 3 points rounding out the balanced attack. FSK was paced by Diehl and Jaeger, who scored 5 points apiece. The first half featured aggressive, physical play from both teams, setting the tone early. Despite the intensity, the Knights maintained control and pulled away to secure the win.

 

Linganore JV defeated Winters Mill 42-4. Vance Glanville led the way with 10 points and Jered Boone chipped in 8 for Linganore. Brantley Parsons paced the Falcons with 4.

 

V - Urbana 59, West Frederick 48 It was a tightly contested matchup with both teams competing hard for all four quarters. Urbana maintained the lead throughout the game, but West Frederick made a strong push in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 16–12 to cut into the deficit. Urbana responded with composure and toughness in the fourth, winning the final quarter 14–8 to seal the victory. The Hawks’ big men proved to be the difference. Xavier Cresta dominated the paint with a standout performance, finishing with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 assists. Gavin Zmuda added 17 points, delivering a strong fourth quarter to close out the game. Israel Kaijuka knocked down timely three-pointers and filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. West Frederick played aggressive defense throughout, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition. T. Morgan was difficult to stop, leading all scorers for West Frederick with 19 points. D. Pair contributed consistently, scoring in all four quarters to finish with 8 points, while Rodgers and J. Goodridge each added 6 points.

 

JV Urbana 59 West Frederick 19 - The teams played the first quarter going back and forth trading baskets early and creating mutual turnovers. The Cadets jumped out to one point lead early on but it would not last. The Hawks got two big three pointers by Imran Lamin to propel them to a 16-8 lead going into next quarter. In the 2nd period, the Hawk’s defense would set the tone holding the Cadets to three points while also beginning to dominate in the paint with Aaron Medina scoring six en route to his game high 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Hawks went into the break up 33-11. The second half was more of the same and the Hawks PG Julian Jimenez would ice the game with six points in the final period to seal the game. The Cadets were led in scoring by Kaiden Layer with five points. The Hawks were led by Medina with 14 and Jimenez with 12 points and 5 steals.

 

Oakdale varsity 48 Smithsburg 38 Oakdale was led by Luke Scholtes with 15 points, and Vinny Favarulo with 11 points. Smithsburg was led by Landon Pugh with 18 points. The game was very competitive with Smithsburg taking a 12 to 7 lead after one quarter. Half time the score was Smithsburg 22 Oakdale 19. The end of the third quarter the score was Oakdale 32 Smithsburg 30.

 

Smithsburg jayvee 35 Oakdale 34 Smithsburg was led by Dimistus Lee with 8 points and Bentley Hobbs with 6 points. Oakdale was led by Maalo Bangnikon with 8 points.

6th - Urbana 44 FSK 40 Urbana edged FSK in a tightly contested matchup that stayed close from start to finish. Neither team was able to create much separation, setting up a dramatic final minute. With the game tied late in the fourth quarter, Cooper Todd delivered the decisive moment for Urbana, drilling a go-ahead corner three-pointer with less than a minute remaining. Sawyer Smith took over down the stretch, scoring six points in the fourth quarter and sealing the win with a clutch free throw in the final seconds. FSK’s Lincoln Monteau kept the Eagles within striking distance, scoring five timely points in the fourth quarter to keep the pressure on the Hawks. Sawyer Smith led Urbana with 16 points, followed by Sam Brooks with 10 and Cooper Todd with 9. For FSK, Lincoln Monteau paced all scorers with 17 points, while Owen Myers added 11 in the hard-fought loss.

 

FIVE VARSITY MATCHUPS DECIDED BY SINGLE DIGITS - 1/03

Varsity - Urbana - 40 - Walkersville - 37. Both teams started off feeling each other out with a lot of shots just missing for each. A good defensive start ends with Urbana up 6-5 after the first. In the second, the offensive opened up with Urbana’s pair of big men Gavin Zmuda and Xavier Cresta cleaning up the offensive glass and getting put backs. Urbana’s Alex Tate and some tough dribble drives to help the Hawks extend their lead. A buzzer beater three from Lions guard Hudson Beaver helped keep it close. Hawks lead 21-15 at half. In the third, the Lions came out locked in on defense and Hudson Beaver got it going with 9 in the quarter. After a Beaver 3 late in the third Hawks Cresta answered with one of his own Lions trim the lead to four. 32-28 Hawks after three. In the fourth, the Hawks tried to pull away, but the Lions kept fighting. Two tough shots from Urbana’s Gavin Zmunda helped the Hawks hold a three point lead with 7 seconds left. Walkersville’s Jeremiah Dorsey got off a tough contested three that rimmed out and Urbana leaves with a hard fought victory. Urbana’s bigs Gavin Zmuda and Xavier Cresta each had 12 and Alex Tate added 8. The Lions were led by Hudson Beaver’s game high 20, 6 from Kieran Hamner, and 5 from Jayden Boube

 

JV - Walkersville 39 - Urbana 29. Urbana came into the weekend undefeated. Walkersville quickly established their dominance with strong team defense and scoring, jumping to a 24-8 half time lead. The third quarter was more of the same, ending with a score of 31-12. Urbana continued to fight into the fourth, scoring 14 points. Walkersville continues to establish their team play with seven players scoring. Poolesville varsity 25 Linganore 24 The game remained competitive from start to finish, with both teams trading momentum throughout all four quarters. The Lancers jumped out to an early lead, holding a 4–1 advantage after the first quarter. Poolesville responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Lancers to take an 11–7 lead at halftime. Strong defensive play continued into the third quarter, and the teams entered the final period tied at 18–18. In the fourth quarter, Poolesville executed late and did just enough to secure the narrow victory. Ricky Reeves led Poolesville with 9 points, while Dominic Sheehan added 7 points in the win. For the Lancers, Cooper Davis scored a team-high 7 points, and Elliott White contributed 6 points in the hard-fought effort.

 

Linganore JV 52 Poolesville 19 The Lancers opened the game with absolute dominance, setting the tone early with relentless fullcourt pressure. Their defensive intensity paid off immediately, forcing the Falcons into multiple mistakes—including a turnover on an inbound play due to a fivesecond violation. Controlling every possession and pushing the pace, the Lancers closed out a flawless first quarter with a commanding 22–0 lead. The momentum continued into the second quarter as the Lancers extended their run to 26 unanswered points before the Falcons finally broke through with their first basket of the game. Unfazed, the Lancers maintained their composure with sharp ballhandling and steady offensive pressure, adding another 16 points to the scoreboard. They entered halftime firmly in control, leading 36–6. The second half brought more of the same. The Lancers’ defensive pressure never wavered, consistently disrupting the Falcons’ rhythm and limiting their scoring opportunities. Strong execution on both ends of the court carried through the third and fourth quarters, allowing the Lancers to stay comfortably ahead. The Lancers showcased disciplined defense, confident ball movement, and complete control from start to finish. The Lancers were led by Lawson Day with a game high 12 points. VARSITY: Mt. Airy 41 Middletown 34 Mt. Airy hung on to beat Middletown as both teams started off 2026. Both defenses were in control as the offenses seemed rusty coming out of the holiday break. Mt. Airy held a slim advantage at the end of the first quarter, 7-6. The defenses continued to dominate throughout the second quarter as each team scored 9 points with the Bulldogs holding a 16-15 halftime lead. In the third, Mt. Airy's offense found a spark scoring 20 in the quarter. Nathan Hartman scored 6 of his game-high 12 points in the frame while Zach Peart added 4 for the Bulldogs. Middletown's Nikolaas Van Rensburg scored 4 in the quarter while Eric Lancaster and Aiden Aviles both hit 3's to try and keep the Knights in the game. Mt. Airy stretched their lead to 36-25. But Middletown battled back in the fourth holding the Bulldogs to just 5 points. However, the Mt. Airy defense bent but did not break. Middletown closed the gap to 36-31. But Ford Miller hit a huge three to increase the lead back to 8 for the Bulldogs with two minutes left in the game. The Knights were paced by Brooks Godlove who scored 3 of his team-high 7 in the quarter but in the end it was not enough. Scoring was spread evenly as both teams had 8 different players score. Leading scorers were: Middletown - Brooks Godlove (7), Landen Clabaugh (7), Eric Lancaster (5) Mt. Airy - Nathan Hartman (14), Ford Miller (10), Gavin Hymiller and Christian Burke (5 apiece)

 

JV: Middletown 40 Mt. AIry 22 The Knights came out on fire jumping out to an 18-6 lead and never looked back. Levi Doody led the Knights with nine points while Higgins Poffenbarger added 8 points. For the Bulldogs Adam Menino tried to rally Mt Airy and led the team with 13 points, but it was not enough as the Knights had ten players chip in to lead to a 40-22 win.

 

Monocacy varsity 42 Smithsburg 34 Both teams were scoring early with Smithburg holding a 17-14 lead at the end of the 1st. Neither team was able to find much offense in the 2nd quarter, and were tied up at 20 going into the half. Monocacy's Gabe Nah was on fire in the 3rd quarter, connecting on 5 shots, 2 from behind the arc and scoring 12 of the teams 18 points. Monocacy's Gabe Nah was the game high scorer with 12 points. Luke Sprankle scored 9 points, 7 points and 3 steals from Kaiyon Stewart, Elijah Griffin added 6 points, 6 blocks and grabbed 8 rebounds, and 4 points each from Alex Dipita and Ivie Owolafe. Smithsburg was led by Landon Pugh scoring 9 points, all from 3 point range. Maddex Kusolnimit and Luke Glines each scored 7 points, 6 points from Jacob Rogers, and 5 from Julian Heiston for Smithsburg.

 

Monocacy jayvee 48 Smithsburg 26 The game was close in the 1st half with Smiithsburg holding a 13-12 lead at the end of the first on a 3 point buzzer beater from Lincoln Brown. Monocacy's Thomas Foreman connected on a mid range jumper "and one" at the end of the half, putting Monocacy ahead 22-18. Monocacy made some adjustments at the half and the players locked in on defense allowing only 8 points in the 2nd half. The game high scorer was Monocacy's Finn Sandford with 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Zuriel Ashu scored 13 points, 8 points from Thomas Foreman, Devonte Cunningham added 4 points, 3 from Wyatt Albaugh and 2 points each from Zaire Griffin, De'Angelo Bowman and Cayden Rowe for Monocacy. Lincoln Brown led the way for Smithsburg scoring 7 points. John Krumpotich and Will Krumpotich each scored 6 points, 3 points from Blake Sines and 2 points each from Henry Rawlett and Bentley Hobbs for Smithsburg.

 

Varsity: Oakdale cruised to a convincing 53–23 victory over Catoctin, jumping out to an early lead and steadily expanding the margin through the final buzzer. Vinny Favarulo led all scorers with 18 points, knocking down two three-pointers to pace the Oakdale offense. Luke Scholtes added 10 points, also connecting on a pair of shots from beyond the arc, as Oakdale showcased balanced scoring and strong team play. Catoctin was led by Weston Tyler, who finished with 11 points, but the Cougars struggled to keep pace against Oakdale’s pressure and scoring depth.

 

JV: Winters Mill 48 Catoctin 23 After a tight first half, Winters Mill spread its wings and never looked back, cruising past Catoctin in a total team effort on the hardwood. Clinging to a six-point lead at the break, the Falcons turned the game in their favor with a decisive third quarter. Seven different Winters Mill players scored during a 15–8 run that allowed them to pull away for good. Colton Wynne led the balanced attack with 10 points. Xavier Danik and Levi Davey followed closely with eight points apiece, while Matthew Kesson chipped in seven to keep the pressure on throughout the second half. Catoctin was led by Luke Wiles, who finished with 12 points. Levi Baker added four points and dished out three assists, working to spark the offense against a stifling Winters Mill defense.

 

Varsity: Brunswick won a tightly fought matchup against Crestwood, 43-40. The Cavs led 26-18 at half, but the Railroaders’ defense in the second half propelled their comeback effort. Brunswick was led by Taylor Black, who finished with a game high of 23 points. Kai Dorsey led Crestwood in scoring with 12 points.

 

JV: Crestwood defeated Brunswick 49-26. Both team got off to hot starts offensively, but the Cavaliers were able to pull away as they headed into halftime with a 32-17 lead. Crestwood got scoring contributions from 12 different players, led by Jayvion Taylor with 9 points. Brunswick’s Andrew Sindler finished with a game high of 15 points.

 

TJ varsity defeated West Frederick 80-58. Paris Kenney led the Patriots with 22 points and Josh Tiedrebeogo contributed 16 points. Tyler Morgan lead all scorers with 24 points and Dennis Pair and Jayden Goodridge each pitched in 10 points for West Frederick.

 

TJ jayvee topped West Frederick 46-27. Vince Casagrande led all scorers with 14 points while Zyaire Brown supported the Patriot victory with 12 points. West Frederick was lead in scoring by Mello Smaw-Brown with 8 points.

 

6TH - FSK defeated Catoctin 45 to 44. Owen Myers led the way for the winning team with 12 points followed by Brady Crawmer adding 11 points. Jaden Allen lead Catoctin with 20 points and Bryce Rickerd added 15.

 

6TH - Urbana 53 Ballenger Creek 21 Urbana came out firing, jumping to a 20-2 lead after the first quarter and cruising into halftime ahead 33-7. Strong Defense continued in the third quarter as the Hawks limited the Bulldogs to just four points. The fourth quarter was evenly played, but Urbana’s early dominance carried them to a convincing victory. Urbana was led by game’s high scorer Elliott Rodriguez with 12 points, followed closely by teammate Cooper Todd with 11 points, Sawyer Smith and Roman Summers chipped in 6 points a piece for the winners. The Bulldogs fought hard and never gave up and they were led by Andrew Kremnitzer with 9 points and teammate Matias Parada added four points.

 

NEWEST RIVALRY: WESTMINSTER JV EDGES WINTERS MILL BY THREE IN OVERTIME - 12/21

Brunswick Varsity 52 Smithsburg 45. Brunswick held off visiting Smithsburg in a tightly contested divisional game. Chris Lopez led Brunswick in scoring with 23 points. Taylor Black hit double figures with 10 points while Gurk Bains scored seven for Brunswick. Chris Kiriaku provided a spark in the fourth quarter for Brunswick, securing nine rebounds to go along with five steals. Smithsburg’s Jacob Rogers matched Lopez with a game high 23 points. Luke Glines contributed nine points and Maddex Kusolnimit scored seven for Smithsburg.

 

Brunswick JV 36 Smithsburg 30. Smithsburg jumped out to a 10-2 lead by end of the first quarter, but Brunswick stayed the course and cut the lead to one, trailing 19-18 at the half. The second half was back and forth before Brunswick ended up pulling away in the 4th quarter with some strong defensive turnovers. Smithsburg was led in scoring by John Krumpotich with nine and Logan Domenico and Bentley Hobbs both with eight. Brunswick was led by Mason Eye with 12 (nine points from 3 pt line) and AJ Sindler and Brody McLane both with eight.

 

Varsity West Frederick 55 Linganore 27 Opening the game with an impressive first quarter, the Lancers showed energy and confidence on both ends of the floor before West Frederick settled in and took a 20–14 lead into halftime. The Cadets then broke the game open with a dominant 20–5 third quarter, creating a gap the Lancers couldn’t close. In the end, West Frederick’s balanced scoring, strong secondhalf defense, and overall efficiency proved decisive. The Cadets were led by Tyler Morgan with 20 points and Grant Dunlevy with 10 points. Linganore was led by Colton Kirk with 12 points.

 

JV Linganore 54 West Frederick 20 Linganore delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance to remain undefeated on the season, using relentless defensive pressure to dictate the pace from the opening tip. Linganore set the tone early with a firstquarter shutout, racing out to a 15–0 lead. The Cadets didn’t get on the board until the second quarter, scoring their first points from the freethrow line and totaling 9 in the period, but the Lancers maintained full control and entered halftime up 279. Linganore tightened the screws even further in the third, holding West Frederick to just 4 points while adding 17 of their own to build a commanding 44–13 advantage. Although the Cadets earned more trips to the line in the fourth, they couldn’t chip away at the deficit, and the Lancers closed out the win. Linganore was led by Jered Boone with a game high 15 points. West Frederick was led by Bryce Necciai.

 

Boonsboro varsity 40 Middletown 27 A slow start offensively from Middletown coupled with strong defense from Boonsboro helped the Warriors take a 15-8 lead into halftime. The 3rd quarter produced more offense from both teams as Middletown was able to erase the 7 point deficit at the start of the 2nd half and take the lead only to give it back with a run by Boonsboro to get the lead back up to 7 by the end of the 3rd enroute to the win. Kathan Franklin led the Knights with 8 points and Mason D'Alessio chipped in 6 points. Boonsboro had 3 players score 37 of their 40 points with Chase Main leading them with 14, Maddox Murray with 13 and Camden Engle with 10 points.

 

Middletown jayvee 31, Boonsboro 29 For this first game on their home court, the Middletown Knights opened up a 10-1 lead at the end of the first quarter of action. However, the Boonsboro Warriors were persistent on the boards, and battled their way back to a much closer match, going into halftime only down 16-9. The Warriors continued their barrage on the boards as well as lighting up the outside, putting up 3 triples in the third quarter alone. However, in the end, the Knights' suffocating defense prevailed, and their guards were able to successfully navigate the Warriors continual press. The Warriors threw up a long distance prayer with 3 seconds remaining, but came up empty handed. The Warriors were led by J. Mullins with 11 points, including 3 treys from beyond the arc, L. Jordre with 6, and D. Atkinson with 4. For the home team, Levi Doody and Cam Larson both put up 10 points, and Carter Schneider and Ben Oman chipped in with 4 points apiece for the Knights.

 

Varsity - Walkersville 59 FSK 27. The Lions came out aggressive a looking to set the pace, but the Eagles big man duo of Caleb Sellman and Brendan Ware dominated the boards and helped keep the Eagles close. 16-13 Lions after one. In the second, Lions’ Liam Windsor’s defense pressure and overall hustle sparked the Walkersville attack a lead to stops and scores helping the Lions take a 33-18 lead in to halftime. In the third the Lions swarming and attacking defense gave the Eagles problems with Joseph Wonah, Jaden Boube and Ryder Nemoga getting tips and steals. The Eagles were able to get up the floor with great ball handling from guard Chris Burton, but only to be met by Easton Fowler who had 3 blocks in the quarter. When the Eagles were able to get shots off Walkersville’s Jacob Daley cleaned up the glass limiting the Eagles to only one shot a possession. Great defense shut out the Eagles in the third and Walkersville leads 51-18. In the fourth, Walkersville’s Daley and Fowler continued to dominate inside with Daley finishing with 12 rebounds in the half and Fowler adding 5 blocks. Lions win 59-27. Lions Hudson Beaver led all scores with 15, Joseph Wonah added 10 and Jaden Boube had 8. The Eagles were led by 7 from Grayson Crawmer an Brendan Ware, and 6 from Chris Burton.

 

JV- Walkersville 44 FSK 35 In an out of conference matchup, Walkersville carried their momentum into Sunday with a victory. Walkersville’s strong defense and rebounding allowed for some quick transition offense and a 17pt half time lead. FSK came out strong and found some holes in the Lions defense to cut the lead to 10 with J. Diehl leading FSK with 10pts and Smith with 8pts. Walkersville’s strong guard leadership was a little too much with Damerius Waller scoring 11 pts, Colin Ieng scoring 6pts and Jalen White scoring 8. Walkersville continued their balanced offense with eight players scoring. Adeoye (2), Campbell (5), Quay (2), Wallace (4), Hite (6).

 

V - Urbana 52 Ballenger Creek 46 It was a competitive game both teams battled throughout. Urbana’s Xavier Cresta dominated the zone defense, finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 steals. Jackson Stanley scored in all four quarters, ending the night with 10 points. Alex Tate added 8 points, while point guard Jaxon Marshall contributed 7 points and 5 steals, providing strong pressure defensively. Ballenger Creek played a physical style and balanced their scoring. S. Furlong led the way with 13 points, including two three-pointers, V. Mogavero added 11 points, and Ryan Longus chipped in 8 points.

 

JV - Urbana 40 Ballenger Creek 35 - In a rematch of last years championship game, both teams were motivated coming in to hold onto their undefeated records. Urbana started strong getting two baskets early before Ballenger’s big man AJ Asamegong started to show why he might be the most unstoppable player in the league this season with four points and a couple blocked shots while getting his teammates involved with great passing. BC would lead 9-5 heading into the 2nd period. Ballenger started to extend their lead in the second period with four more points from Asamegong. But Urbana made a great run at the end of the period getting a big three from Carter Norris and a buzzer beater from Evan Nwarneri to tied the game at 15-15 going into the half. In the 3rd period, the Hawks dynamic guard duo Jionni Jones and Julian Jimenez started to take control, pouring in a combined 13 points and it looked like the Hawks would begin to pull away. But once Ballenger answered getting six more from Asamegong and four free throws to close the gap late and the teams went into the final period at 30-25. The fourth period was hard fought with Ballenger getting four points from Jonathan Bantole who ended the game 10 points and six points from Asamagong who led all scorers with 20 points. But the Hawks were six for six from the free throw line including two big makes from their captain Nico Arande to win the game. Urbana was led in scoring by Jones and Jimenez who scored 10 a piece. Nwarneri had seven and Arande scored six.

 

JV: In a battle of crosstown rivals, Westminster defeated Winters Mill 49-46 (OT). A back and forth second half saw Westminster score eighteen fourth quarter points to draw even at 42. Richard Carnegie hit a game- tying three with :05 left in regulation and had two more buckets in overtime to pace Westminster with 16 points. Karsten Fombe added 12 points for the visitors as well. Winters Mill was led by Connor Wynne with 19 and Levi Davey with 16, including four- threes.

 

V - TJ 52, Poolesville 37 What happens when you put three scorers in double figures? Poolesville found out the hard way as Thomas Johnson's trio of Paris Kenney (game-high 17 points), Santana Pacheco (13), and Gabe Ayala (10 points) did all the damage that needed to be done as TJ ran away with a win. Isaac Yanike dropped in six points in the win for the visitors with Landon Kenney pitching in four points and Zakir Johnson also scoring. Poolesville's Ricky Reyes scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter to keep things close with Johnny Horan and Dom Sheehan adding six points each. Ishant Vayal pitched in four second half points for the Falcons. Max Embrey, Abdiel Gomez, Brody Newman and Jayden Dhaity each scored three points in the losing effort with Ethan Johnson also scoring.

 

JV - TJ 39, Poolesville 27 Thomas Johnson opened up an early 16 point lead then held on for win. Zy'Aire Davis played like "Air Jordan". He finished with 16 points, all in the first three quarters. Kamari Magett added seven points and #1 (no name in scorebook) hit two threes to keep the win in hand. For Poolesville, Luca Thorson did what he could to keep things close, including hitting three three-pointers on his way to a 15 point outing. Jonathan Purner finished with seven points for the Falcons, with Chris Horan adding four points and Jase Cessna also scoring.

 

6th - FSK 39, Poolesville 21 In a balanced scoring effort for the visitors, FSK's Connor Bullock led all scorers with nine points, followed closely by Lincoln Monteau with eight, Owen Myers with seven, Brady Crawmer with five, and Romeo Taylor with four. Gordon Dhaity put his Poolesville teammates on his back and carried the Falcons with 10 points. Jacob Bond finished with four points. Chad Stradley, Thaddeus Millner, and Hassan Barry each had a bucket. Chase Gilbert also scored in the loss. Poolesville picked up some strong defense from Bond and Everett Hedrick. Sebastian Waldman handled the ball well for the Falcons helping them to stay close early on.

 

6th - Urbana 51. Boonsboro 26 Urbana came out on fire, opening the game with a dominant 14–0 run that set the tone early. Boonsboro battled hard to find their rhythm, but the Hawks maintained control and carried a 28–13 lead into halftime. Urbana continued their steady play in the second half, using balanced scoring and solid defense to extend the lead and secure the win. Sawyer Smith led all scorers with an impressive 23 points, while Cooper Todd added 10 and Sam Brooks chipped in 7 for the Hawks. For Boonsboro, Mikko-Taddeo Deuboue paced the Warriors with 11 points, and Walker Conroy contributed 7.

 

6TH - Oakdale 49, Ballenger Creek 10 Oakdale jumped out in a commanding 15-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Bears remained undefeated with the victory. Dominic Jackson led all scores with 16 points with 14 coming in the first half while teammate Ryan Hessman added nine points for the winners. The Bulldogs were led by Andrew Kremnitzer who finished with five points.

 

6TH - Brunswick 50 Smithsburg 41. The game was competitive early, with both teams trading baskets and momentum through the first half before Brunswick began to separate themselves with strong defense and rebounding. A balanced offensive effort proved to be the difference for the Railroaders who were led by Kraus with 19 points and 22 rebounds. Smith added 12 points, and Kay contributed 10 points and an impressive six steals. Smithsburg was led by Mason with 15 points and Sewell who finished with nine points.

 

SEVEN SWEEPS HIGHLIGHTED BY WALKERSVILLE'S DOUBLE-UP OF MONOCACY - 12/20

Walkersville varsity 37 Monocacy 30 The game was close throughout with neither team holding a double digit advantage. Walkersville's 3 point shooting gave them the edge, knocking down 5 from beyond the arc. Walkersville's Joseph Wonah was the game high scorer with 12 points. Elijah Griffin scored 11 points for the Mustangs and grabbed 8 rebounds. Hudson Beaver scored 9 points, 6 points from Jeremiah Dorsey, Kieran Hanmer added 4 points, 2 points each from Liam Windsor, Jayden Boube, and Nicholas Hartman for Walkersville. Monocacy's Gabe Nah and Ivie Owolafe each scored 8 points, and Kaiyon Stewart added 3 points.

 

Walkersville jayvee 47 Monocacy 25 The Walkersville Lions raced out to an early lead and never looked back in their 47-25 win against the Monocacy Mustangs. The game high scorer was Walkerville's Demarius Waller with 14 points. The Lions had a balanced scoring attack with 11 players in the score book. Anthony Wallace scored 8 points, 5 points each from Colin Leng and Brian Hite, Trey Campbell scored 4 points, Zayden Adeeoye, Isaac Quay, Jon Wonah, Jalen White and Korey Johnson each scored 2 points and a free throw from Bryson Gagnon. The Mustangs leading scorer was Zuriel Ashu with 6 points, 5 points a piece from Zaire Griffin and Jackson Northern, a 3 pointer from Wyatt Albaugh, 2 points each from Tobias Stevenson and Finn Sanford and free throws from Nelson Hite and Cameron Martino.

 

Urbana varsity 53 Windsor Knolls 16 In an old rivalry WKMS lost to Urbana. Spirited in the opening minutes Achileas Moutafis scored the first bucket for the Wolverines. The Hawks responded quickly with 6 from Alex Tate and 5 from Jackson Stanley. In the second period Lex Melito-Mustafa hit a 3 while Stanley added another 5 points. The third period saw Xavier Cresta come alive with 6 points while Stanley added another 7. Leading scores for the Hawks were Jackson Stanley with 17, Alex Tate with 12 and Xavier Cresta with 10. The Wolverines had Lex Melito-Mustafa with 7 and Achilleas Moutafis with 4.

 

Urbana jayvee 42 Windsor Knolls 32 The Hawks Evan Nwaneri opened the scoring for Urbana, hitting a a 3 pointer. The Wolverines Silas Lane scored four points as the 1st quarter ended with the Hawks up seven to four. Lane continued his hot shooting in the second quarter scoring nine including two 3 pointers. The Hawks got balanced scoring in the second quarter with four players contributing two points each and the teams went into halftime tied at 15. The Hawks Jionni Jones nailed two 3 pointers early in the 3rd quarter but Silas Lane for WK matched them in an exciting dual. The Wolverines would go up by four but the Hawks stormed back . Aaron Medina scored six points and Urbana controlled the boards building a 31-25 lead heading into the final quarter. Silas Lane tried to keep WK in the game, hitting his fifth 3 pointer of the game . The Wolverines were not able to cut into the Hawks lead. Urbana’s Nico Aranda and Julian Jimenez added four apiece, including a 3 pointer for Jimenez. Nwaneri lead the Hawks with 11, Aranda with 10 Jones with nine and Medina finishing with six. WK’s Silas Lane lead all scorers with 24.

 

Varsity: Oakdale 71 Brunswick 54 Oakdale set the tone early and never looked back, using relentless defensive pressure and efficient perimeter shooting to secure a victory. The Bears imposed their will from the opening tip, forcing turnovers and converting on the offensive end to build separation. Brunswick made several strong runs throughout the contest to narrow the gap, but Oakdale consistently responded, maintaining control down the stretch. Oakdale guard Luke Scholtes led all scorers with a game-high 25 points while also contributing six rebounds, four assists, and five steals in a dominant all-around performance. Vinny Favarulo added 14 points along with four rebounds, three assists, and five steals, further fueling the Bears’ two-way effort. Additional contributions for Oakdale came from Cooper Verner (six points), LJ Kemp (seven points), and Ben Roberts, who chipped in four points and four rebounds. Off the bench, Matthew Osae-Addo provided a spark with five points, three assists, and four steals. Brunswick was led by Chris Lopez and Taylor Black, who each finished with 16 points. Lopez connected on two three-pointers, while Black knocked down three shots from beyond the arc. Matt Johnson and Emery Triteh added six points apiece for Brunswick.

 

Oakdale’s JV defeated Brunswick 51-29. Oakdale was led by Gavin Absalon with 17 points, followed by Caleb Clark with 9 points. Peter Campopiano an Maalo Bangnikon added 6 points, while Riley Hajjar and Gavin Kolick scored 4 points apiece. Additional scoring came from Dills and Miller (2 points each) and Kramer (1 point). Brunswick was paced by Makai Harrison and Ignacio Grzymkowski, who each finished with 9 points. Brody McLane contributed 4 points.

 

Varsity: Mt. Airy defeated West Frederick 49-44 in a back-and-forth contest. Mt. Airy was lead by #3 Burke with 14 points and West Frederick was lead in scoring by Dennis Pair with 18 points.

 

Mt. Airy won the JV game 41-20. Mt. Airy was lead in scoring by Kam McCarthy with 13 points and Jameson Mallaree with 12 points. West Frederick was lead in scoring by Kaiden Layer with 8 points.

 

Crestwood varsity pulled away late to defeat Catoctin 54–46 in a competitive matchup that stayed tight until the final minutes. Crestwood jumped out early, leading 18–9 after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 26–18 at halftime. Catoctin responded with strong defensive pressure in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 38–33 heading into the final period. The Cougars continued to battle, tying the game twice with under three minutes remaining. However, Crestwood answered each surge with timely shooting. Sharp perimeter play from Akuzike Mienga proved to be the difference, as he knocked down five three-pointers on his way to a game-high 29 points. Damien Wallace Jr. added 9 points for Crestwood, helping secure the win down the stretch. Catoctin was led by Eli Yocum with 18 points, while Jeremy Veronie chipped in 12. Despite their defensive effort and late-game resilience, the Cougars were unable to overcome Crestwood’s shooting in the closing moments.

 

Crestwood jayvee rolled past Catoctin 34–18 with energy and effort on both ends of the floor. The Cavaliers set the tone early with a suffocating full-court press that completely disrupted the Cougars’ rhythm. Catoctin managed just two points in the entire first half, as Crestwood stormed into the locker room holding a commanding 20-point lead. Offensively, Crestwood moved the ball crisply and played unselfish basketball, with 10 different players finding their way into the scoring column. Leading the charge was Lance Catud, who finished with 10 points, controlling the paint with strong post play and steady rebounding. Jayvion Taylor provided a spark as well, chipping in nine points to keep the Cavaliers rolling. Catoctin showed fight in the second half, led by Luke Wiles with six points. Levi Baker and Max Vasquez each added four.

 

TJ Varsity delivered a dominant performance, cruising to a 68–39 victory over Ballenger Creek. TJ set the tone early with strong defensive pressure and efficient scoring, building a comfortable 38-22 lead by halftime. The Patriots continued to control the pace in the second half, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition. A balanced team effort on both ends of the floor sealed the convincing win for TJ. TJ was led by Paris Kenney with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Isaac Yanike with 16 pts, and Santana Pacheco with a double-double 11 pts, 10 rebounds. Ballenger Creek’s Colton Led his team in scoring with 15 points followed by Kobe Shareef with 10 points.

 

TJ JV pulled out it's 1st win of the season vs Winter Mill 38-34. TJMS came back from a 1 point difference at the half to come out with the win. Top scorer for TJMS was Zy'Aire Davis with 14 points, followed by Evan Yanike with 8 points. Top scorers for Winter Mill was Levi Davey with 15 points - hitting Five (5) three-points shots.

 

Boonsboro V 39 Poolesville 31. Boonsboro took the lead from the tip and never looked back. Warrior’s Maddex Murray led all scorers with 15. Camden Engle had 12 while Kaden Lewis and Gabe Lazo added 5 a piece for Boonsboro. Poolesville was led by Johnny Horan scoring 11. Dominic Sheehan had 7 while Ethan Johnson and Abdiel Gomez had 5 a piece.

 

Boonsboro’s JV defeated Poolesville 54-28. Landyn Palmer led Boonsboro scoring with 12 points. Drew Atkinson contributed 11 points and Braeden Worrell scored 10 points for the Warriors. Chris Horan led Poolesville’s scoring with 9 points and Luca Thorson contributed 8 points for the Falcons.

 

6TH FSK 36 Ballenger Creek 33 In a high intensity game from start to finish, The FSK Eagles jumped out to a 9-4 lead of the Bulldogs at the end of the 1st quarter. The Bulldogs responded by attacking the boards and scoring 10 points in the second quarter, but the eagles edged them out by 1 scoring 11 points of their own to take the lead 20-14 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs came out strong in the third quarter outscoring the Eagles 10-2, with both teams going bucket to bucket throughout the period. After several costly turnovers on both sides, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by one with 2 seconds left in regulation. A foul sent the Eagles to the line-after missing the first free throw, they made the second to tie the game 29-29 and force another overtime the second week in a row for the Bulldogs. Both teams battled hard in the extra period but the Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 7-3 to seal a nail-biting victory. The Eagles were led by Brady Crawmer with 10 points, followed by Connor Bullock with nine points, Lincoln Monteau with seven points, and Romeo Taylor chipped in five points for the winners. The Bulldogs were led by the game high scorer Grayson Kopp and teammate Andrew Kremnitzer added 8 points and CJ McDonald chipped in five points.

 

6TH Oakdale earned a strong 43–23 win over Brunswick in an exciting matchup. The game started slow, with both teams finding their rhythm in a low-scoring first quarter that ended Brunswick 9, Oakdale 5. 6TH Urbana beat Catoctin 66 to 41. The Hawks were led by Brooks who finished the game with 17 points and Smith who contributed 15 points. Marshall also contributed 10 points for the Hawks. Catoctin was led by Jayden Allen with 22 points. Bryce Rickerd also contributed at 11 points.

 

SMITHSBURG SWEEPS CATOCTIN, BOONSBORO TAKES TWO OF THREE FROM FSK - 12/14

VARSITY Smithsburg 60 Catoctin 32 Smithsburg led 32 to 16 at halftime and they extended the lead in the third quarter. Both teams played hard in the fourth quarter. Smithsburg was led by 5 players in double digits. Leading scorer for Smithsburg was Maddex Kusolnimit with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Vince Bloom with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Jacob Rogers, Luke Glines, and Landon Pugh all had 10 points. Pugh also had 5 assists. Catoctin was led by Weston Tyler with 17 points for game high.

 

JV Smithsburg 47 Catoctin 12 Logan Domenico and Dimetus Lee led Smithsburg with 9 points each. Bentley Hobbs added 8 points for the winners. Wiles had 8 points to lead Catoctin in scoring.

 

6TH Smithsburg 42 Catoctin 32 Nash Byrd led Smithsburg with 12 points and 4 steals, and DJ harris added 9 points. Malachi led Smithsburg in rebounds with 12. Bryce Rickerd led Catoctin with game high 13 points.

 

Boonsboro Varsity defeated FSK 43-28. Boonsboro’s Chase Main led all scorers with 11. Maddex Murray added 8 points with 9 steals and Gabe Lazo tallied 7 for the Warriors. Cam Bullock led the Eagles with 8 points and Brendan Ware added 7 in the loss.

 

FSK’s JV defeated Boonsboro 32-29 in a back and forth contest. Jonathon Diehl led FSK with 12 points and Wade Smith scored 9 points. Landon Jordre and Landyn Palmer paced Boonsboro with 7 points each.

MIDDLETOWN, LINGANORE SPLIT NAIL-BITERS; BOONSBORO WINS THREE - 12/13

Varsity Middletown 35 Linganore 32 Middletown takes down Linganore using a strong surge of offensive pressure. Trailing 16-9 at the half, the Knights dialed in from long range and shot the Lancers out of their zone. After a 15-3 run, the Knights took a 24-19 lead into the fourth quarter and never looked back. A would-be game tying 3 fell short at the buzzer along with the Lancer comeback. Kathan Franklin led the Knights with 9 points, while Aiden Aviles and Nikolas Van Rensburg each pitched in 5. The Lancers were led by Cooper Davis' 12, including two 4th quarter threes during the comeback that fell just short. Elliott White added 9 for the Lancers.

 

JV Linganore 26 Middletown 24 After winning the opening tip but turning the ball over, the Lancers fell behind to a 10–0 Knights run and trailed 6–10 after the first quarter. In an all around defensive game, Linganore responded with a 5–0 surge in the second, holding Middletown scoreless to take an 11–10 lead at halftime. Their defensive dominance continued in the third, limiting the Knights to just two points while extending the margin to 17–12. The fourth quarter turned into a nailbiter as Middletown stormed back with an 8–0 run to pull within two in the final minute, but the Lancers held firm under pressure to secure another home victory. Linganore was led by Jered Boone with 12 points. Middletown was led by Levi Doody.

 

V Urbana 46 Oakdale 34 Oakdale fell in a hard-fought matchup. Urbana was led by a balanced scoring effort, with Xavier Cresta pacing the Hawks with 13 points. Jaxon Marshall added 10 points, while Alex Tate chipped in 9 to help Urbana pull away and secure the win. Oakdale was led by Luke Schmoltres, who finished with a game-high 16 points. Vinny Favarulo contributed 7 points for the Bears, but Oakdale struggled to keep pace with Urbana’s steady offense throughout the game.

 

JV Urbana 49 Oakdale 22 - The Hawks stepped on their home court for the first time and immediately got to work with efficient passing, tough defense, and a fast start by Imran Lamin with six points in route to a 10-0 first quarter lead. The Bears settled down in the 2nd period getting dribble penetration baskets from Gavin Absalon but the Hawks continued to share the ball and two great assists by Bryan Lei to Evan Nwaneri allowed them to extend the lead to 21-6 at the half. The Hawks picked up the pressure in the 3rd period and scored in bunches to push the lead up and held the Bears to two points in the 4th period to finish the game. Urbana had a balanced scoring contribution with eight players getting in the books led by Imran Lamin and Jionno Jones with nine a piece. Oakdale was led by Gavin Absalon and Caleb Clark with six a piece.

 

Varsity – TJ 42, Mt. Airy 37 The game started with Mt. Airy jumping out to a 9 to 5 lead in the first quarter. Mt. Airy continued to lead into halftime with a 19-13 lead. TJs pressure and dominance on defense helped claw back in the second half out scoring Mt. Airy 14-8 in the 3rd Quarter. 4th Quarter started with TJ applying full court defensive pressure witch seem to rattle Mt. Airy holding them to just 10 points in the 4th quarter. TJ was led by Paris Kenney who led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Gabe A and Josh T who both chipped in with 8 points each. Mt. Airy was led by Nathan H with 11 points, coming up big with timely buckets that kept Mt.Airy in the game.

 

JV - Mt Airy 37 TJMS 20 Very evenly played game quarter 1 and 2 with Mt. Airy leading by 2 at the half. However, Adam Menion 17 points in the second half made all the difference to take Mt Airy to the win. Mt. Airy was lead in scoring by Adam Menion with 19 points. TJMS highest scorer was William Opeku with 6 points.

 

Crestwood varsity rolled past Windsor Knolls 60-26. The Cavaliers played most of the game in transition, converting off costly Wolverine turnovers and capitalizing with layups on the offensive end. Going into halftime, Crestwood led 31-13 and never looked back. The Cavs were led by Isaiah Gions with 15 points and Kai Dorsey with 13 points.

 

JV: Windsor Knolls led wire to wire as they took down Crestwood 56-31. Both teams got off to slow offensive starts, with the Wolverines leading 3-2 after the first quarter. Windsor Knolls’ aggressive half-court defense continually gave Crestwood trouble throughout the next three quarters, forcing them into some costly turnovers and leading to fast break opportunities on the offensive end. The Wolverines’ scoring was led by Silas Lane, who finished with a game high of 16, and Elliot Malt, who added 14. Crestwood’s DeSean Lawrence led his team with 11 points.

 

Boonsboro varsity 48, Catoctin 35 Catoctin closed the first quarter strong when Chris Smallwood knocked down a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to cut Boonsboro’s lead to 13–10. At halftime, Boonsboro maintained control with a 22–16 advantage. The third quarter proved to be the difference, as Boonsboro took over behind sharp shooting from Kaiden Lewis and Eric Toll. Boonsboro outscored Catoctin 17–5 in the period to build a commanding 39–21 lead. Catoctin showed resilience in the fourth quarter, mounting a late rally and cutting the deficit to within 10 points, but the comeback attempt fell short. Kaiden Lewis led all scorers with 16 points, including two three-pointers, and was followed by Eric Toll with 11 points for Boonsboro. Catoctin was led by Weston Tyler with 9 points, while Eli Yocum added 6 points.

 

Boonsboro jayvee topped Catoctin 42-13. They locked down their defense and rained three’s in a dominate third quarter. L. Jordee lead Boonsboro with 13 points with and with 3 from downtown. B. Keaton had 10 points. Levi Baker lead Catoctin with 7.

 

West Frederick varsity defeated Smithsburg 62-41. The teams battled back and forth and were tied at halftime before West Frederick pulled ahead in the second half and cruised. West Frederick was lead in scoring by Tyler Morgan with 14 points and Kai Rodgers chipped in 12 points.

 

West Frederick jayvee defeated Winters Mill 42-31 lead by an outstanding performance by Caiden Layer who paced West Frederick with 24 points.

 

Brunswick varsity 57-FSK 35. It was a hard fought 1st half with Brunswick leading 23-19 at halftime. Brunswick took control in the 3rd quarter out-scoring FSK 19-10. Brunswick was led by Taylor Black who had 16 of his 28 points in the Second Half. Emery Tritch had 11 points scoring seven in the second half and Chris Lopez had Seven of his Nine points in the 1st half. FSK was led by Cam Bullock with 14 points and did a nice job handling Brunswick's pressure. Caleb Sellman finished 12 points

 

FSK jayvee 32 Brunswick 31. A nail-biter that came down to the final moments. Caiden Frock sealed the victory at the free-throw line with the go-ahead shot, finishing with 6 points and 3 steals. Landon Myers dominated the glass, posting a game-high 17 rebounds to go along with 8 points and 3 steals in a monster effort. Jonny Diehl added 9 points to help push FSK to the win. Brunswick was led by Brody McLane with 13 points, while Mason Eye and Andrew Sindler each chipped in 8 points in the hard-fought loss.

 

6TH - Brunswick 43 FSK 38. The first quarter ended with Brunswick ahead by 2 after a 3 pointer by James. Brunswick pulled ahead in the fourth outscoring the Eagles 11-7. FSK was lead by Brady Crawmer with 16 points and 5 steals. Owen Myers added 9 points and 3 assists, Connor Bullock added 6 points with 2 steals and Lincoln Monteau added 5 points and 9 rebounds. For Brunswick, James led the team with 23 points while Parker added 8 and Camden added 7 points to the victory.

 

6TH - The Ballenger Bulldogs opened their season with a thrilling overtime victory, edging Smithsburg 34-32 in a back and forth battle that stayed tight from start to finish. Ballenger grabbed an early 8-7 lead at the end of first quarter, but Smithsburg responded in the second, outscoring the Bulldogs 9-5 to take the 16-13 advantage at the half. The second half featured nonstop momentum swings as both teams traded buckets. Smithsburg Joseph Mason caught fire for the Leopards , scoring 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half. With just 38 seconds left in remaining in regulation and the Bulldogs clinging to a 31-28 Lead, Mason drilled a deep three Steph Curry style – to tie the game at 31 to force an overtime. Ballenger’s Andrew Kremnitzer, quiet in the first half took control down the stretch. He scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half providing the spark the Bulldogs needed to pullout the dramatic win, Grayson Kopp added 6 points for the Bulldogs. For Smithsburg Nash Byrd and Jackson Malagari chipped in 4 points a piece for the Leopards. \

 

6TH - Oakdale 38 Urbana 33 The Bears held off the Hawks, controlling the game from start to finish. Oakdale built a five-point advantage by halftime and maintained its lead throughout the second half, fending off several Urbana pushes down the stretch. Dominic Jackson led Oakdale with a strong performance, scoring 16 points, while Owen Farley added 10 to provide key offensive support. For Urbana, Sawyer Smith paced all Hawks scorers with 18 points and Roman Summers chipped in 4 points in the loss.

 

6TH - Boonsboro defeated Catoctin 53 to 35. Boonsboro‘s Fawley led the team with 30 points. Catoctin was led by Bryce Rickerd with 19 points and Xavier Meekins with 12 points.

 

TJ, BALLENGER CREEK SPLIT MIDWEEK DOUBLEHEADER - 12/11

Varsity – TJ 51, Ballenger 36 The game started with TJ jumping out to a 7 to 0 lead only to see Ballenger claw back scoring 5 un-answered points closing the quarter 7 to 5. The second began with Ballenger picking up their offense while holding TJ to 5 and scoring 14 closing the half with a 5-point lead 19 to 14. The third started with TJ applying full court defensive pressure with seem to rattle the Bulldogs, creating multiple turnovers which led to several quick scoring opportunities. Closing the third with a 31 to 25 lead. The fourth was all TJ outplaying Ballenger on both sides of the ball. TJ’s balance second half scoring and defensive play held the Bulldog to a total 17 for the half. TJ was led by Paris Kenney who led all scorers with 20, followed by Gabe Ayala with 12, the Bulldogs were led by Kobe Shareef with 16 followed by Eli Gomez with 8.

 

Ballenger Creek javee defeated TJ 59–22. Ballenger got off to a strong start building a commanding 33–8 lead by halftime. TJ put their best effort forward but Ballenger continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Patriots 23–14 over the final two quarters to cruise to victory. The Bulldogs spread the scoring around, with almost the entire team scoring at least 2 points. Leading scorers for Ballenger: AJ Asameyong with 17 points Jonathan Bankole with 12 points Benai Underwood with 9 points. SMITHSBURG PULLS OFF TRIFECTA; SMITHSBURG, URBANA, WESTMINSTER DOUBLE UP - 12/07

Urbana varsity defeated Crestwood 40-24. Both teams put their defenses on display in the first quarter, with only 8 points combined and the score knotted at 4 apiece. The Hawks’ scoring picked up in the second quarter, with Xavier Cresta and Gavin Zmuda continually getting to the line and making good on their free throws. In the second half, Urbana continued to clamp down defensively, limiting Crestwood to 5 total points in the 3rd quarter. Despite 10 points from Crestwood’s Damien Wallace Jr. and 9 from Kai Dorsey, Urbana came out on top, led by Xavier Cresta, who scored a game high 13 points.

 

Urbana jayvee won a tightly fought contest against Crestwood 45-32. The Cavaliers quickly fell behind 11-2 by the end of the 1st quarter, but their offense battled back in the 2nd to keep the game within reach. Although Crestwood’s press forced several Urbana turnovers in the second half, the Hawks lit it up from behind the arc and came out with the victory. Urbana’s Jionni Jones finished with a game high of 19 points, shooting 8-8 from the free throw line and connecting on two 3’s. Crestwood’s A’veion Cain had a team high of 9 points.

 

Varsity Oakdale 54 Windsor Knolls 18 The Wolverines came out cold and tentative against an aggressive Oakdale Bears team. Luke Scholtes dominated the qtr scoring 11 of his game high 14 early. Mathew Osage-Addo added 4 in the period. The second was more of the same as WKMS couldn’t buy a basket and the Bears kept rolling with Carlos Miguel hitting his first 3 . Oakdale took a commanding lead at the half. The 3rd period showed more fight out of WKMS with Jeremy Puvirajan getting on the board with a couple of deuces while the Bears Cooper Verner knocked down three. Ryan Ramroop came alive in the 4th with 8 points for the Wolverines and some nice post moves. Carlos Miguel hit his third 3 pointer for Oakdale.Oakdale was led by Luke Scholtes with 14, Carlos Miguel with 9 and Cooper Verner with 8. Windsor Knolls had Ryan Ramrod with 8 and Jeremy Puvirajan with 6.

 

JV Windsor Knolls 51-Oakdale 31 The Wolverines came out strong jumping to a quick 7-0 lead with Elliott Malt quick drives to the basket. The Bears fought back getting four points from their big man Maalo Bangnikon. WK led at the end of the first quarter 11-9. Wk scored six points in the 2nd quarter while Oakdale managed four as the Wolverines held a 17-13 advantage at the half. WK scored the first two points of the 3rd quarter taking a 19-13 lead . The Bears answered quickly, getting back-to-back 3 pointers from Caleb Clark and Riley Hajjar to tie the game at 19 apiece. WK answered with Silas Lane and Elliott Malt hitting back to back 3’s. Lane added another 3 pointer and Malt had a 4 point play as the Wolverine's went on a 21-4 run to take a commanding lead 40-23 heading into the final quarter. Malt and Lane continued to play outstanding basketball hitting for six and eight points in the final quarter. Oakdale’s Bangnikon was tough all game with his rebounding and scoring in the paint finishing with ten points. Hajjar finished with seven. WK was led by Lane and Malt each netting 21 points.

WK’s Johan Ovalles battled all game on the boards against the Bears big men. Ovalles played excellent defense helping ignite the fast breaks for WK and finished with five points. Gassa Djoka also fought hard on the boards against the bigs of Oakland. Seth Mazinga created numerous turnovers, also playing tough defense for the Wolverines.

 

Varsity - Walkersville - 51 - Ballenger Creek - 36. Walkersville started strong with great defensive pressure. 3 pointers and good ball movement helped the Lions take a 13-5 lead after one. More of the same the second quarter, the Lions struggled to finish around the rim, but worked well on the glass getting rebounds. Lions led 24-11 at halftime. In the third the Bulldogs zone packed in and made it harder for the Lions to get open looks. The Lions Kevin Coleman sparked the offense with back to back threes and two defensive stops. Lions lead 37-21 after three. In the fourth, the Bulldogs got a spark with some leak out layups and a three from Vincent Mogavero. The Lions turned up the defensive pressure and took advantage of a short handed Bulldogs team that played hard throughout. Lions win 51-36. The Lions Hudson Beaver led all scorers with 19, 18 from Joseph Wonah, and 8 from Kieran Hamner. The Bulldogs were led by Vincent Mogavero’s 14, and 12 from Kobe Shareef.

 

JV. -Ballenger Creek - 46 Walkersville 35 In a battle of two very physical teams, Ballenger Creeks post presence proved to be a factor with Asameyong providing 20pts which included two very timely 3 pointers. Although walkersville cut the lead to 6 with their full court press and causing turnovers, 8 points from Trey Campbell , 8 points from Colin Ieng it couldn’t hold off a strong ballenger creek offense. Other contributors from Ballenger - 6 from Bankole , 8 from Harrington and 4 from Brown

 

Brunswick Varsity defeated Boonsboro 42-33 in their season opener. Brunswick was led by Chris Lopez, Taylor Black both scoring 14 and Matt Johnson added 10. Boonsboro was led by Gabe Lazo with 8 while Camden Engle and Eric Tall added 7 a piece.

 

Boonsboro JV pulled off a buzzer beater to beat Brunswick 40-39. Braeden Worrell scored 18 points and Landon Jordre had 10 points for Boonsboro. Andrew Sindler scored 11 points and Brody McLane had 10 points for Brunswick.

 

Varsity TJ 47 Linganore 36 In a high-energy showdown, Linganore left it all on the court but came up short against TJ . The Patriots leaned on sharp shooting and timely runs to keep momentum on their side, while the Lancers countered with aggressive defense and quick transitions that kept the crowd engaged. Though Linganore fought hard, the Patriots’ consistency down the stretch proved decisive, giving them the victory. Linganore was led by Colton Kirk with 13 points, with Elliot White providing secondary support. For the Patriots, Landon Kenny delivered a standout performance, tallying a game high 20 points and serving as the driving force behind their offense. Isaac Yanike scored 13 points and Santana Pacheco chipped in 10.

 

JV Linganore 57 TJ 26 The Patriots relied on 3-point shooting, but Linganore’s speed and defensive pressure set the tone early. Late in the first half, TJ briefly grabbed a 12-11 lead with three straight 3-pointers, but the Lancers answered with a run of their own, surging to a 30-13 halftime advantage. In the second half, Linganore continued to dominate, limiting TJ’s offense to long-range attempts. By the final seven minutes, the Lancers had stretched the lead to 45-18, holding the Patriots to just five points in the quarter. With their defense suffocating and offense clicking, Linganore closed out the game in commanding fashion. Leading scorers for the Lancers were Henry Keefer with 18 points and Jered Boone with 10 points. The Patriots were led by Kamari Magett and William Opoku.

 

Westminster varsity 42 FSK 32 Westminster led by Kaden Cotton 13, KJ Cotton 12, CJ Barmoy 11. Caleb Sellman led FSK with 7 pts Constant pressure from Westminster shot them out to a big 1st quarter lead and they held on for victory.

 

Westminster jayvee 39 FSK 32. Westminster led by Richard Carnegie 13 pts, Po Jones 12 pts, and Darien Cartwright 11 pts. Wade Smith led FSK with 8 pts Nice scoring run by the Owls to start the 4th quarter to push a 2 point lead to 10.

 

Mt Airy JV defeated Winters Mill 58-38. Leading scorer for Mount Airy was Jameson Mallare with 20 points, and Jake Batdorff chipped in 8. Mount Airy came out strong with an 18-6 first quarter run and never relinquished the lead. Mount Airy dominated the offensive rebounding with 23 offensive rebounds. Winters Mill was led by Connor Wynne with 9 points.

 

V - Smithsburg 43, Poolesville 28 Vincent Bloom from Smithsburg hit for 10 of his team-high 16 points in the final period to push back against a tough Poolesville squad and help his team record a win over the homesteading Falcons. Smithsburg teammate Jacob Rogers (eight points) also did his share in the fourth quarter, going four-for-four from the line to seal the victory. Luke Glines added seven points in the win, Julian Heiston pitched in five, Maddex Kusolnimit had four, and Landon Pugh finished with three. Poolesville's Johnny Horan put the Falcons on his back with 14 points from all over. Rickey Reyes kicked in five points, Ishant Vayal hit a long three-pointer in the fourth quarter to keep things close, and Max Embry, Ethan Johnson, and Owen Stump each scored in the loss.

 

JV - Smithsburg 38, Poolesville 19 Smithburg pitched a fourth quarter shutout, going on a 12-0 run to break open a tight contest and returning to Washington County with a win. 10 players landed in the Smithsburg scorebook, led by Logan Domenico with eight points (all in the second half), and five points each from Bentley Hobbs, Jay Krumpotich, and Pierce Harshbarger. Will Krumpotich hit a three-pointer to help put the game out of reach. Poolesville kept things close behind a team-high eight points from Jonathan Purner with Chris Horan pitching in four points, George Miller adding three, Samson Hanna and Elliott Ostrander dropping in a bucket each.

 

6TH - Smithsburg 34, Poolesville 30 Smithsburg rode a balanced scoring effort, led by Anthony Sewell with eight points and seven points by Joey Mason, to hold off a determined Poolesville squad. Nash Byrd pitched in six points in the win with Isaac Grove adding four. Poolesville Gordon Dhaity continued his strong start in the MML with a game-high 16 points, including two three-pointers, four-for-six from the line, and 11 points in a furious third-quarter burst that gave the Falcons a two-point lead going into the final quarter. Poolesville also picked up strong efforts from Thaddeus Milliner (six points) and Chase Gilbert and Jacob Bond (four points each) as both teams fought for the win down the stretch.

 

6TH - Brunswick 47 Boonsboro 46 Brunswick jumped out to a 16pt half time lead Boonsboro then settled down in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead to 4 Brunswick pressure was to much for Boonsboro in the 4th quarter. Brunswick was lead by

Kraus 19 and Rhodes 9 Boonsboro was lead by Fawley 15 Conroy and Thompson 7

 

BRUNSWICK, MONOCACY, WALKERSVILLE AND WF LOG SATURDAY SWEEPS - 12/06

Monocacy varsity 43 Crestwood 4 Monocacy led wire to wire, playing excellent defense and was strong on the boards limited Crestwood scoring opportuntunies. The Mustangs were also very balanced on offense with 9 players in the scoring column. Leading the way for Monocacy was Elijah Griffin, finishing with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards. Monocacy's Ivie Owolafe scored 7 points, Mason Hodge scored 6 points and played great defense with 7 steals, 4 points each from Gab Nah, Mason Dennis and Alex Dipita, a 3 pointer from Gus Midgette and a point from Kaiyon Stewart. Crestwood's Sean Brown scored 3 points and a free throw from Kai Dorsey.

 

Monocacy jayvee 39 Crestwood 29 Monocacy held a slim 12-9 lead at the end of the first half as either team was able to provide much offense. Monocacy knocked down a few jumpshots in the 3rd quarter, both Cayden Rowe and Devante Cunningham each connected from behind the arc. Heading into the final quarter the Mustangs were up 9, leading 25-16. The Cavaliers continued to fight, forcing some late turnovers, but Monocacy sealed the victory with some clutch free throws from Devante Cunnningham and 4 buckets in the paint from Zuriel Ashu. Monocacy's Zuriel Ashu was the game high scorer with 17 points, Devante Cunningham added 10 points, 6 from Cayden Rowe, and 3 each from Thomas Foreman and Finn Sanford. Crestwood was led by their guards which accounted for most of their offense. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was Jayvion Taylor finishing with 9 points, 5 points a piece from A'veion Cain and DeSean Lawrence, 3 each from Trevin Harris and Lance Catud and 2 points from both Jeremiah Adeyemi and Ezekial Rodriguez.

 

TJ's varsity Patriots took care of business with a strong 50–34 victory over Middletown with balanced scoring and tough defense from start to finish. Paris Kenney led the offensive attack with 17 points, 7 rebounds while Isaac Yanike (10pts), Santana Pacheco(8pts),London Kenney and Gabe Ayala (5pts) added key buckets to keep momentum on TJ’s side throughout the game. The Patriots controlled the pace, created turnovers, and capitalized on second-chance opportunities, allowing them to pull away in the second half.

 

Middletown jayvee 47 TJ 34 TJMS got off to a good start but Middletown came back with some inside strength to win the game. Levi Doody lead Middletown with 17 points. Next highest scorer for Middletown was Cam Larson with 9 pts. Middletown came on strong the 2nd quarter scoring 21 of their 47 points. TJMS played a even 3rd and 4th Quarter. Leading scorer for TJMS was Vincent Casagrande.

 

Mt. Airy varsity 40 Linganore 15 The first quarter saw the two teams trade baskets for the first couple of minutes. Linganore's Cooper Davis hit a layup but was answered by Christian Burke for Mt. Airy. Zach Peart then gave Mt. Airy the lead but that was answered by Colton Kirk for the Lancers. The Bulldogs defense started to take over and they ended the 1st quarter with an 8-4 lead. Mt. Airy stretched the lead to 13-5 in the 2nd with buckets from Miller and free throws from Cole Willingham and Gavin Hymiller. Linganore closed the lead to 13-9 with a big three-pointer from Daniel Cioffi but that was as close as Linganore would get. Mt. Airy closed the 2nd quarter on a 6-0 run with a bucket from Willingham and a three from Miller to extend the lead to 19-9 at the half. The Bulldogs offense got going in the 3rd quarter as they scored 13 points in the frame. Henry Huffman got the scoring going with a driving layup, Benny Garcia hit a big three, and Nathan Hartman added a layup to put the Bulldogs up 32-12 at the end of three. Mt. Airy's defense remained stout throughout the second half only giving up 6 points as the Bulldogs. Leading Scorers Mt. Linganore jayvee 32 Mt. Airy 24 It was a defensive battle. Linganore led 11-8 headed into the third quarter when Mt Airy went on a run and took the lead 19-16. Linganore bounced back to start the fourth quarter with some timely transition buckets and strong defense at the end to pull out the win. Henry Keefer and Matthew Marcellino led the Lancers with 8 points a piece and Chase Walker added 7 points. Kam McCarthy led the Bulldogs with 8 points while Adam Menino added 6 points of his own.

 

Varsity: Walkersville 43 Oakdale 26 — Walkersville set the tone early, jumping out to a quick lead and never surrendering control. Oakdale was led by Cooper Verner with 13 points and Luke Scholtes with 10.

 

JV: Walkersville 29 Oakdale 26. Oakdale battled from start to finish in a high-energy matchup that featured big runs, tough defense, and clutch scoring on both sides. Despite a strong push late in the game, Oakdale came up just short, falling in a competitive contest that stayed tight until the final whistle. Leading scorers for Oakdale Maalo Bangnikon (14) and Gavin Kolick (8). Leading scorers for Walkersville Anthony Wallace (12) and Jalen White (6).

 

West Frederick varsity pulled out to a big first quarter lead and defeated Westminster 65-37. Tyler Morgan and Dennis Pair both scored 15 points for West Frederick with Grant Dunlevy and Jaydon Goodridge supporting the dominant effort with 8 points a piece. For Westminster, #14 Barmoy scored 14 points to lead the Owls in scoring with #15 Fetterhoff pitching in 11 points.

 

JV: West Frederick pulled out a close game over Westminster 34-33. West Frederick was lead in scoring by Bryce Necciai with 11 clutch points with K'Daeveon "Diggy" Onley chipping in 10. Westminster was lead in scoring by #14 Jones with 9 points.

 

Varsity - Brunswick 56 Catoctin 26. Brunswick opened the game with a dominant 10–0 run and carried that momentum into halftime with a commanding 26–9 lead. Catoctin managed to get to the foul line and put several Brunswick players in foul trouble, but they couldn’t capitalize on those opportunities, struggling to convert at the stripe. Brunswick pulled away in the second half and closed out a 56–26 victory. Taylor Black led all scorers with 19 points, while Chris Lopez added 10. Catoctin was paced by Jeremy Veronie, who finished with 8 points.

 

JV - Brunswick 52 Catoctin 28 Brunswick turned up the heat in the second half, outscoring Catoctin 18-4 in the third quarter to cruise to a dominant win. After holding a narrow 21-17 lead at halftime, the Roaders exploded on both ends of the court, showcasing a lethal blend of offense and lockdown defense that the Cougars couldn't contain. McLane and Grzymkoski led the charge, each scoring 10 points, while Rye and Sindler contributed 8 apiece, with Sindler lighting up the perimeter with two big three-pointers. Luke Wiles kept Catoctin in the hunt, finishing as the game's leading scorer with 12 points while Levi Baker chipped in 7. Max Vazquez was a force in the paint, grabbing 8 rebounds

 

Smithsburg varsity 36 FSK 17. Smithsburg jumped out to a nice 1st half lead by finishing the half leading 14-2. Smithsburg played steady throughout the entirety of the game taking care of the ball and capitalizing on good ball movement to keep the lead. They were led by Landon Pugh tallying 13 points including two from downtown. Jake Rodgers finished with seven for Smithsburg. Chris Burton and Caleb Sellmen led FSK with five points each and Cam Bullock did a nice job handling Smithsburg pressure and limited turnovers.

 

FSK jayvee 33 Smithsburg 31. The win was sealed by a last-second three-pointer from Wade Smith. The Eagles were led offensively by Liam Trotman with 10 points, followed by Jonny Diehl with 6 and Dylan Olson with 5. On the defensive end, Caiden Frock set the tone with 5 steals, while Camden Rutter controlled the boards with 9 rebounds. Smithsburg was led by Logan Domenico with 10 points and Lincoln Brown with 8.

 

6TH - FSK 33 Smithsburg 29. At the end of the first half Smithsburg led 15-14 but FSK added 15 points in the 3rd quarter to pull ahead. Smithsburg cut the lead in the 4th scoring 9 points to FSK's 4, however could not regain the lead. FSK was lead in scoring by Brady Crawmer with 13 points. Lincoln Monteau had 10 points and Connor Bullock added 6 points to the win. Smithsburg was lead by Joseph Mason with 7 points. Jackson Malagari and Derrick Harris each added 4 points.

 

6TH - Oakdale 48 – Boonsboro 14 Oakdale delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, overwhelming Boonsboro on both ends of the floor. The Bears controlled the tempo early, held Boonsboro to just 8 first-half points, and never looked back. Leading scorers for Oakdale Dominic Jackson (16) and Ryan Hessman (8). Boonsboro leading scorers Hunter Thompson (6), Colton Cook (2), and Mikko Deuboue (2).

 

6TH - Brunswick 55 Catoctin 15 The Railroaders got off to a fast start and were led in scoring by James and Parker who both ended with 16 points. Catoctin was led in scoring by Bryce Rickerd with four points.

 

SEASON OPENS WITH A PAIR OF SPLITS, ONE OVERTIME DECISION - 11/30

V- Poolesville 36, Catoctin 30 (OT) Poolesville took control in overtime against Catoctin on Sunday, outscoring the visitors 7-1 in the extra period to record a hard-fought win. The Falcons were paced in OT by Ricky Reys (nine points), who hit a long three to ice the game. Poolesville also picked up big games from top-scoring Johnny Horan (15 points) and Dom Sheehan (10 points). Jackson Kavanaugh also dropped in a bucket in the win. For Catoctin, Weston Tyler (10 points, including 3 for 4 from the free throw line) and Eli Yokum (10 points, one point in OT) all keyed the Cougars second half surge and helped and pushed the game into overtime. Nathanael Fountain (four points), Jeremy Veronie, James Clements, and Chris Smallwood each had second half buckets to force the extra period.

JV - Catoctin 20, Poolesville 19 Catoctin made sure overtime wasn't in the cards for their game against Poolesville. Luke Wiles caught fire in the second half, scoring 11 of his game-high 13 points, including three three-pointers, to propel the visitors to a nail-biting win over host Poolesville. Reece Evangelista (three points), Levi Baker (two points), and Connor McGrew also scored for Catoctin in the win.Thanks to the efforts of Samson Harris (12 points) and Jonathan Purner (six points), plus a free throw from Elliott Ostrander, the Falcons pushed out to an early lead before the see-saw tilt went in Catoctin's direction.

Brunswick Varsity 51 Windsor Knolls 41. Trailing by two at the half, Brunswick outscored visiting Windsor Knolls by twelve after the break to win the season-opener.  Seven players scored for Brunswick in the contest, including a game high 20 points from Chris Lopez.  Taylor Black recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Brunswick.  Windsor Knoll’s Jeremy Puvirajan matched Lopez with a game high 20 points.  Achilleas Moutafis added seven points for Windsor Knolls.

Windsor Knolls JV 45- Brunswick 27.  The first half of the game was a close one, with Windsor Knolls going into the half with a 17-13 lead. But Windsor Knolls second half produced a multitude of turnovers with the half court press that led to the first five baskets in transition to WK mounting a lead that Brunswick could not overcome. Silas Lane led WK with 13 points while Johan Ovalles and Elliott Malt both added 11. Brunswick was led in scoring by AJ Sindler with 11 points (nine of which came from the three-point line).  Brody McLane added seven while Mason Eye scored five.

6TH - Oakdale 46 Brunswick 24- The game opened evenly with both teams trading early baskets, but late in the second quarter Oakdale pulled ahead and maintained the lead. The Bears were powered by Dominic Jackson (17 points) and Miles Absalon (13 points), who supplied the offensive spark needed to separate them from the Railroaders. Brunswick’s Kraus had a double-double (10 points/17 rebounds) followed by Barnes-Houck (six points) and Smith (six points).
 
6TH - Catoctin fought off a strong third quarter surge by Poolesville to beat the Falcons by a final score of 40-21. Catoctin’s attack was paced by Jayden Allen (10 points), Bryce Rickard (eight points), and Cole McCauley and Xavier Meekins (seven points each), whose scoring balance helped build and maintain a steady lead. Catoctin also picked up buckets from Holden Ruiz-Beach (four points), Chase Shoemaker, and Stefan Trica. Poolesville was led by Gordon Dhaity (nine points), who provided the bulk of the scoring inside, while Bryce Newman (four points) added key baskets during the team’s best offensive stretch. Jacob Bond (two points, four steals) and Chad Stradley (two points, team-high offensive and defensive rebounds) brought major defensive impact, and Thaddeus Milliner (two points) rounded out the scoring for the Falcons. Poolesville came alive after halftime, putting up 12 points in the third quarter with improved ball movement and defensive energy from the entire rotation, including Everett Hedrick’s steady floor leadership.
